Much more than a farmer’s wife

I’ve become a farmer.  Well, not so much a farmer (that’s hubby) as a farmer’s wife.  I’m still acclimatizing – getting to understand what the role of a farmer’s wife even looks like.

There must be a word which identifies the other half of a farmer without making us sound like accessories.  We are just as important.  We do things that matter, even though we may not be the ones fixing the fences, spraying the weeds,or grubbing the thistles (though I have a sinking feeling that I may be getting lessons very soon).

I googled synonyms for farmer’s wife and got 1) country woman and 2) woman farmer.  They aren’t very glamorous descriptions, I don’t think.  Landlady sounds like someone running a pub.  Earth mother is too wholesome.  Hmm, I am sure something will come to me in the early hours of the morning as I awake listening to the possums playing hide and seek on the roof.
